You may have heard of Dale Carnegie's, "How to win friends and influence people." (Download the .pdf version here). This book has given solid advice to millions in their quest for success over the decades.
You will realize, even after reading this book, that YOU still need training in effective speaking WITH OTHERS. You still need more training in the fine art of getting along with people in everyday business and social circles. Dealing with people is probably the biggest problem YOU face, especially if you are in business.
This is true whether you are a housewife, mechanic, architect or engineer.
Research, done a few years ago, revealed that even in such technical fields as engineering, about 15% of one's financial success is due to one's technical knowledge and another 85% is due to skill in "human engineering" of personality and the ability to lead people.
There are several principles in NLP.
The first and foremost is "Relationships" as NLP is about the "Excellence of Communication".
NLP specifically deals with mutual trust and responsiveness known as ‘rapport’. Rapport is when you find yourself in a comfortable zone where you can communicate effectively, understand another persons ideas and emotions. It can be applied both in relationship with yourself and in relationship with others.
Let us start with the rapport with yourself.
How many times you have heard yourself say, “Part of me wants to do this, and another part of me stops me from doing this.”
The greater the degree of ‘Physical Rapport’ you have with yourself, the greater your health and well being, as the different parts of your body are working well with each other. The greater your ‘Mental Rapport’ with yourself, the more you feel at peace with yourself, as the different parts of your mind are united.
There are many who have all the criteria of success, yet are unhappy within themselves. You may have noticed that such people make others uneasy too.
We seem to arrange the world in a way that reflects our internal state. So internal conflicts create external ones. And, the quality of rapport, we have with ourselves, is often a mirror of what we achieve with others.
Rapport at the ‘Spiritual’ level can manifest a sense of belonging to a larger whole, beyond individual identity, and knowing our place in creation.
Perception is projection...
Whatever you do and whatever you want, being successful will involve relating to and influencing others. So, the very first thing NLP processes teaches is how to establish rapport with both yourself and others.
