When you want to change your state from being overwhelmed and stuck, it’s not a mental state ~ it’s actually a state in your body.
When people think they are stuck; they have a "hedgehog mentality". Their thoughts are circular and they are thinking the same thing over and over again. Our body behaviour is an expression of these thoughts.
If you were to ask someone, "Can you describe an overwhelmed or anxious person?" (a stuck person is both of these), what would they say?
- Arms are sloppy;
- shoulders are hunched,
- bending or hunching forward,
- quiet speech,
- slow talker.
The power position study by a psychologist from Harvard University proves that standing tall directly influences our biochemistry. The power pose is nicknamed “The Wonder Woman” pose. You simply stand tall with your chest out and your hands on your hips. The image here shows powerful women like Christine Lagarde and Beyonce in classic “Wonder Woman” pose. The impact of these poses is just as relevant to men as it is to women.
Move, breath and shift, every morning. If you try doing it just in thoughts, you are not able to shift the pattern as these thoughts are all around you. But when you change your body posture, your state changes immediately and you become a more powerful thinker and resourceful.
You will then be able to create new thoughts to deal with being stuck, or any problem or challenge. Once the state changes, now you can examine the origin - your limiting beliefs. These limiting beliefs are stereotyped ideas from society, parents, institutions, peers, and culture.
You can use techniques taught in NLP as a great way to to snap yourself out of any state, learn how to examine your limiting beliefs from a different angle and how to change your state to be in the exact position you want to be - unstuck.
